LoGRI is seeking to recruit for two summer interns to work with its core staff to deliver essential communications, engagement, and programmatic objectives. Positions available include a Research and Program Intern and a Digital Communications and Program Intern. These roles will be primarily in Toronto but may involve travel to Dakar, Senegal for LoGRI’s bi-annual international conference. Please find the job descriptions below. Research and Program Intern
Qualifications and Skills:
- Working towards a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Political Science, Global Affairs, Public Policy, Economics, Geography, African Studies or a related field. Applicants must be based in Ontario.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct literature reviews and desk-based background research on relevant topics.
- Support data collection and analysis, and draft policy briefs, summaries, or articles based on published research.
- Support the core research team with document review, key informant interviews, and overall research administration.
- Support engagement with key policy, governmental and institutional stakeholders.
- Assist with logistical planning for LoGRI’s bi-annual conference, including scheduling, venue coordination with speakers, panelists, and attendees
- Help prepare conference materials such as conference programs, agendas, and presentation slides
Skills and Experience
Essential Skills:
- Ability to conduct qualitative or quantitative research and policy analysis, including jurisdictional/environmental scans and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn about tax and development, specifically subnational tax and public finance.
- Proficient research management skills.
- Basic knowledge of QGIS and/or ArcGIS for mapping and data handling
- Ability to read, interpret spatial data, and perform basic spatial analysis
- Ability to work independently, organize critical tasks, meet deadlines, take the initiative and work flexibly to manage multiple and changing priorities.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English and/or French.
Desirable Attributes:
- Desire to or experience living/working in Africa, ideally including engagement with policymakers, non-profit organizations, civil society and public administration.
- Ability to work well autonomously with minimal supervision,
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to collaborate with people from all cultures, across time zones, in a virtual team environment.
- Knowledge of other languages widely spoken in Africa is an asset. Fluency in oral and written French is especially desirable.

Digital Communications and Program Intern
Qualifications and Skills:
- Working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, marketing, political science, international development, African studies or a related field. Applicants must be based in Ontario.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manage and update the organization’s website, social media platforms, and newsletters.
- Create engaging digital content, including infographics, videos, blog and social media posts to promote research outputs, events, and initiatives.
- Monitor social media engagement and track analytics to assess impact.
- Assist in coordinating conference logistics, including the preparation of promotional materials.
- Liaise with vendors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders to ensure smooth event execution.
Skills and Experience
Essential Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to craft effective communication outputs (e.g. newsletters, social media posts, etc.) across a range of platforms.
- Experience with digital media, audio-visual editing, and graphic design tools (e.g. Canva, InDesign, WordPress, etc.).
- Knowledge of basic web development principles.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Renumeration and Term
This is a paid, full-time (35hr/week) internship position to begin on May 1, 2025. The duration of the internship will be between three to four months. Pay will be in accordance with the standard University of Toronto USW-casual rates. In addition, there will be opportunities to work part-time (10-15hrs/week) beginning on April 1, 2025.
