From May 19-21th, various members of the LoGRI team will present at the Urban Property Tax Workshop in Accra, Ghana. Co-organized by the African Cities Research Consortium (ACRC) and the People’s Dialogue, the aim of the workshop is to stimulate discussion on the property tax reform agenda in Ghana, drawing on lessons learned from reform related experiences across Africa.
The workshop will feature presentations from:
- Chair and Associate Professor at the Munk School, Dr. Wilson Prichard on lessons on the design of effective, equitable, and accountable property tax reform,
- Technical Consultant Xaver Schenker on property tax administration – holistic thinking for long-term benefits,
- Research Lead Dr. Colette Nyirakamana and Policy Lead Camille Barras on inter-institutional collaboration in property tax administration,
- Technical Lead Evan Trowbridge on building trust and transparency with digital tax systems, and
- Dr. Wilson Prichard on political barriers to property taxation and potential strategies to overcome them
- ICTD Research Fellow and Munk Fellow Vanessa van den Boogaard tax reform coalitions and the politics of property tax reforms in Sierra Leone.
